My Dead Body

This body I live in is heading for non-existence. When my soul and spirit departs, a slow process will begin to dissolve this house, once my home. Someone will likely put my body in a box and close the lid. Then the box will be placed into a steal vault and both will be secured with locks. Then placed in a hole in the ground and covered with dirt.

Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. Ecclesiastes 2:6

In that cold, dark, lonely place my body will begin to fall apart. The flesh will swell and become bloated. An awful stinking odor will occur that no one would want to smell. Parasites and worms will begin eating and devouring the home I once lived in. This will be the fate of my body, where once I lived. Soon all the muscles, tissues and fluids will be gone. Leaving a skeleton of bones hard and dry. Job spoke of that time,

My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust; my skin is broken, and become loathsome. Job 7:5

And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Job 19:26

They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them. Job 21:26

In time, even the bones will disappear and become dust. To the eye, nothing of my dissolving will be seen down in the ground. My body will be one of the myriads of forgotten ones. No more will my body be kissed, nor will it be lovingly caressed, as once. For my body will not be, though I had pampered it with proper food and exercise while it had life in it. My body will no longer know what is going on. The times for laughter will be gone and tears will no longer flow down my cheeks. The grim reaper has dragged me down to a shallow pit. Doctors and medicines cannot help me anymore. My time on earth has ended. I will not smell the flowers on my grave.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:22

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:25

What has caused this terrible loss of life? I sinned! I sinned against God and He says you have too! The penalty for sin is death. My body died, although it struggled desperately to live one more day. My body will be gone, or will it? My earthly home had been made of sixteen chemicals. Studies show these make up our bodies:
  • Calcium (1.5%)
  • Phosphorus (1.0%)
  • Potassium (0.4%)
  • Sulfur (0.3%)
  • Sodium (0.2%)
  • Chlorine (0.2%)
  • Magnesium (0.1%)
  • Iodine (0.1%)
  • Iron (0.1%)
  • Chromium (trace)
  • Cobalt (trace)
  • Copper (trace)
  • Fluorine (trace)
  • Manganese (trace)
  • Molybdenum (trace)
  • Selenium (trace)
  • Tin (trace)
  • Vanadium (trace)

These same chemicals are found in the earth. Some reports say our body is worth less than four dollars. My Creator knows all about my body because He made it from the ground. He knows it will return to the dust. He knows the chemicals that make up my body. One day the trumpet will sound and the voice of the Arch Angel will sound. My dead, dissolved body, will at the command of the Lord, suddenly arise full of life and glorious in appearance. What a day that will be! Why will I arise? I had repented of my sin and asked for forgiveness through Jesus Christ. For the promise was made by Jesus,

He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. John 5:24-25

My dead body will come alive again by the power of Almighty God. I will live in it forever without ever dying again!

So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 1 Corinthians 15:42-44

Death and the grave had claimed my body for a time. They had deprived me of my loved ones and friends. But! On that day when I willl be resurrected, victory will come to that decayed body and it will arise to live in everlasting glory with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The Apostle Paul said our bodies were vile. This properly means "the body of humiliation;" that is, our humble body. It refers to the body as it is in its present state, as subject to its infirmities, disease, and death. It is very different, far from what it was when man was created, and from what it will be in the future world. Paul says that it is one of the objects of the Christian hope and expectation that this body, so subject to infirmities and sicknesses, will be changed.

Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself. Philippians 3:21

The Apostle not only tells of the time when the bodies of all believers will be raised from the dead and brought forth to live forever in a glorious state just as the Lord, but he also says, there will be those who will not die, but their bodies will suddenly be changed and caught up to meet the Lord in the air.

Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:51-57

So today, I struggle along, growing older and nearer to the day of departing from this life. But, I have no fear, for I know the One who pardons sinners, and gives eternal life to those who believe in Him. What about you my reader friend? You know you are going to die one day. Your body will decay and be reduced to dust. Have you prepared to live forever? Only Jesus can give you eternal life. He wants to give you life forever and will if you ask him to be your savior. His great desire is for you to live with him throughout eternity in heaven.

Father, bless all our readers with the gift of salvation, I pray in Jesus name. Amen. Preacher
