Satan Likes to Go to Church
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. Revelation 3:6
People today would be surprised to know how many of our present day churches are some of the worst, most dangerous places they can go. Why? Because Satan attends all Bible churches with a goal to disrupt, hinder, and discourage, to say the very least. Satan has no interest in churches that preach a social gospel, or a watered down teaching ministry.
I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Revelation 3:15-16
In light of the fact that Satan can be found in our churches we are still commanded by the Lord Jesus Christ to go to church. We are told;
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Hebrews 10:25
God has always had an appointed place for people to go to worship him. Many say, “I can worship as good at home as I can at church”- BUT, assembling at church with fellow believers is God’s commandment. Bible scholars believe the entrance into the garden of Eden was the first place God ordained to worship him. Angels guarded the entrance to keep anyone from entering into it again, and to keep them from eating of the tree of life.
So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. Genesis 3:24
God didn’t want Adam and his descendants, who were now sinners, to eat from the tree of life and live forever as sinners. I am so glad that we will not always be sinners. Those of us who have been saved know a better life than the life of sin. Our loving, heavenly Father protected the human family at this time and kept them from being sinners forever.
As I look around today and I see, and know what sin is doing to people it saddens my heart. So many are still bound in sin. Millions try to find happiness, peace and fulfillment in this life but sadly they end up deceived. People who are unsaved can never understand this because their flesh is in control. They are blinded to the spiritual things available to believers. It is not until a person is saved, that they can discover the secret to life. But many continue to reject salvation and the peace of God that comes with it because they love their sin so much. Man finds such pleasure in sin.
The Bible said about Moses;
Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
Hebrews 11:25
The Apostle Paul wrote this warning to the church at Rome about the sweet thrill of sin;
The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. Romans 6:23
God chastens his children who sin and those who are never saved will pay for their sin in the Lake of Fire. We are told this in the book of Revelation;
And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:15
False Prophets
In the book of first Samuel we are told of a man who took his two wives to the Tabernacle to worship God. Eli the older priest, and his two sons were the practicing priests at this time. The Bible tells us something very important about these sons.
And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the Lord, were there. 1 Samuel 1:3
Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD. 1 Samuel 2:12
Even though these two priests were sons of Eli, a believer in God, they did not know God. They were of the devil. Belial means devil. Hophni and Phinehas were the priests at the Tabernacle where God’s people came to worship God. They dressed like priests, and they acted like priests, but they had bad reputations. The Bible tells us they were very wicked men and later they were both killed. As the old saying goes, everything yellow is not gold. Wonder how many ministers in the churches today are of the Devil?
During the time Jesus conducted his ministry there were many wicked priests. Some had even tried to discredit him. But Jesus said;
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. John 8:44
Jesus made it clear who the religious leaders were. They were supposed to be the spiritual leaders of Israel, but they did not know the Lord. This is still true today. The following verse refers to what Isaiah the prophet said in Isaiah chapter twenty nine. The Apostle Paul said it like this;
(According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day. Romans 11:8
When people will not accept the truth, God allows them to believe a lie. This will happen to many during the seven year tribulation which comes after the rapture of the church. Some of Satan’s Purposes in Church When Jesus met his twelve disciples in the upper room the night of his betrayal you would have thought everything was going to be just great. But, Satan was there too. We are told;
Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them. Luke 22:3-4
Just because Jesus is present at the church house doesn’t mean the Devil is not there. Now someone may want to sound like a smart aleck and say, the reason they do not go to church is because the Devil is there. Well, the Devil or one of his demons is everywhere.
One of the chief places Satan loves to go to church is where ministers and teachers use the Bible to misrepresent God’s Word with heresy, or false doctrine. Today, there are many of these kinds of churches. This was predicted long ago by the Apostles, and Jesus himself. Yet, deceived people just cater to the good sounding words they hear.
For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. 2 Corinthians 11:13-15
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 1 Timothy 4:1-2
Another area Satan is making big changes today is with the music. Some churches now offer two services. One service for traditional worship and music. The second service is for the modern rock gospel, with hand clapping, foot stomping and mini sermons. Music and sermons that please the crowd and will not offend anyone. People leave these services happy and smiling because it was a feel good experience and everyone had made them feel so welcome. These churches have good crowds, but you let a Bible preaching preacher, preach like he should, and the folks will not only not come back but many of the members will be heading for the exit.
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:18
So we see Satan is a busy! Especially now as we get closer to the end of the age. The scriptures teach us Satan will increase his attacks as his time continues to run out. He will be doing all he can to deceive as many as he can in order to keep God from getting any glory. It is his delight to bring confusion, division, discouragement, and unrest to as many as possible. Can you imagine the surprise that many will experience when they die expecting to be going to heaven, but instead fall into hell. No doubt this is happening to myriads of people everyday. Why, because they have not repented of their sin and truly trusted Jesus Christ alone for their salvation. Folks, we are all lost sinners who cannot save ourselves. We need a savior and God has provided us one in his only begotten Son. Only people who turn from their sin and receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith will be saved.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
So when you hear of problems in our churches like division, members arguing, church splits, pastors running off with someone, and on and on, then you know Satan is hindering the work of our Lord, causing souls to perish for eternity.
Yes my friend, Satan likes to go to church! When he finds someone thinking about getting saved all he has to do is whisper, “You can wait another week,” or “You don’t want to give up the sin you love so much,” or “You don’t want to look foolish in front of all these people,” then he wins another soul. These are just some of the ideas Satan can suggest to keep people from trusting Jesus as their savior.
With the dramatic changes that have occurred in so many of our churches today we are truly living in a dangerous world. And, it appears to be getting worse.
Listen to what the Apostle Peter wrote;
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
1 Peter 5:8
Yes, Satan stands ready to “devour,” folks. BUT - The “Good News” is Satan has been defeated! He has been sentenced to the Lake of Fire to spend eternity. All of the demons who serve him will also be consigned to that place of eternal torment, along with all of the people who never trusted Jesus Christ as their Savior. If you have not trusted Jesus yet in your life, bow your head right now and ask Him to forgive you, turn away from your life of sin, and accept Him as your savior today. You will never regret it.
Jesus said this about all people in Matthew;
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there
be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be
that find it. Matthew 7:13-14
Father, thank you for salvation through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Bless our readers and their families in all they do, we ask in Jesus’ precious name. Amen, Preacher
