There Are Only Two Roads
Life has a choice. God has made it simple. There are only two roads from which we may choose to travel on in this life, and only one of them allows us to get off, and get onto the other. But, to do this we all must make a choice. All of us are traveling down one of these roads, and each road leads to a different place. It is from here that we all will live forever. Remember, you are going to live forever somewhere, and you are on your way there now. So which road are you taking?
The road that we begin life on is a very broad road and all people start on this road because we are all born as sinners.
Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Psalm 51:5
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23
Some people never get off the road of sin, and they die without a savior forever doomed. For some, death happens when they are young and it is totally unexpected. While others die when they are older. But whether you are young or old if you choose the broad road your final journey will end in hell. My friend, once we draw our final breath there is no turning back, or getting off the road we, and we alone have chosen. With our last breath we have sealed our final destination.
However, some do get off the broad road because they see it only leads to sorrow and misery. At some point in their lives they realize living a sinful life with false promises and misguided ideas is not the life they want to live. So they make the choice to exist off the broad road and they begin to live for, and serve the Lord instead of themselves. They heard the warnings being given and decided that fun on the broad road was not worth the cost of losing their soul.
Jesus spoke about the value of the soul of man;
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Mark 8:36
There are so many people today who are working hard trying to pay their bills and live a comfortable life. They are so busy with their life that many are even failing to prepare for the life to come. Some are putting aside funds for retirement and vacations, but failing to plan for their spiritual need. My readers, the soul of man needs nourishment just like the body does. Jesus addressed this in Luke 4:4;
And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
How unwise so many are today who are caught up in the fast pace of life dealing with the here and now and neglecting their eternal soul that needs the spiritual bread of life from the Word of God. Notice, Jesus stressed that we need “every word of God.”
Do you understand there are no short cuts to feeding your soul? This is one of the reasons the Bible teaches we are to attend a Bible church faithfully so we may be properly fed the spiritual food we need to be the person God wants us to become. The Apostle Paul tells us that;
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; Ephesians 4:11-14
So traveling down the narrow road God has planned for our growth, gives us instructions to become the person he wants us to be in our Bibles. There is no information more important than the Word of our God, and there is no one who does not need it.
I wonder how many people realize they will never be what God wants them to be without following the teaching of the Holy Scriptures. Many people are striving to get a higher education thinking if they get a degree it will ensure a successful life. That in itself is a sign of gross ignorance in what is the most important need of their life.
We see pictures on television of people in some countries where they are starving because of the lack of food. What a pitiful sight that they look like skeletons covered over with skin. Yet, that is the way the souls of most people are today in the world, even many church members. Their souls are like dwarfs, shriveled, puny, sickly, and starving, because they have not been fed properly. The Apostle Peter’s last words were;
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever.
1 Peter 3:18
There is no growth without the Word of God hidden in our hearts to guide us and sustain us. By knowing the Bible and living by it’s teaching Christians are kept from many harmful distractions, and pitfalls that can discourage them and hurt them on their way to the promised land we know as heaven.
The road to hell is often very exciting to people because the Deceiver does not tell them what is at the end of the road. Instead, life is filled with the interest of what pleases the flesh, the eyes, and man’s pride. The Apostle John describes it this way;
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
1 John 2:15-17
It is not that “things” are wrong, but we are not to live for these things. There is something more important than these. These things we are told will pass away, but spiritual investments will last forever.
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Matthew 6:19-21
The road to hell is filled with drunks, dopers, fornicators, adulterers, effeminate, thieves, robbers, murders, liars, pleasure seekers, godless, moral, immoral, wicked, and religious people. However, any of these can transfer to the narrow road by repenting of their sin and trusting Jesus Christ as their own savior.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10
Jesus said the narrow road is a road that has fewer people traveling on it. Why, because most people are deceived and do not put any importance on the spiritual need they have. We need to understand that the narrow road does not mean we will have an easy life, or a life without problems either. It does mean that Jesus will be with us always through all the good times, and the bad once we accept Him as our savior.
Even so, you can be sure the enemy of our soul will at times come against us, and God will allow him to test us. These tests are allowed to develop our faith.
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. James 1:2-4
There is a great joy that can be found by traveling on the narrow road;
Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 Peter 1:5
Because Jesus said;
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
John 10:28
Once Jesus has saved us we are saved forever and will travel the narrow road all the way to heaven to live with the one who loved us so much he died upon the cross to pay for all of our sins. Praise the Lord for such a wonderful Savior!
What about my readers today? Which road are you traveling? It is most important you make sure you are saved by the grace of God. If you are saved then the Lord will be with you all the way to heaven when he is ready to take you there.
Learning about our Lord and Savior in this life is a thrilling experience. Realizing how he has changed us from sinful people to love righteousness is such a blessing. So let me encourage each of you to continue to love the Lord and share him with everyone you can. And, remember to pray for the souls of lost family members, friends, and co-workers that you may know about.
Heavenly Father, we praise You, our great God today for the salvation provided for us through the Lord Jesus Christ. Bless our readers we ask, Amen. Loving the Savior. Preacher
