The Last Invitation
I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. Revelation 22:16-17
Throughout the Bible whether it’s in the Old or New Testament we often find an invitation to be saved. This includes the Last Invitation in the book of Revelation. Old and New Testaments alike, teach that salvation is by faith alone. In this study I will share with you many of the invitations for salvation that have been given by scripture throughout the ages.
The Last Call
For someone to be saved they must be drawn. The above scripture from Rev. 22 shows us how the Holy Spirit pleads for the lost to believe on Jesus. This is the work of the Holy Spirit, to convict and convince sinners they need to be saved. If you ever had a feeling that you just know you need to be saved, then the Holy Spirit is inviting you to repent of your sin. Does someone reading this message need to be saved? Have you been putting it off over, and over again? My friend, not answering the call when you are convicted to do so will be very costly.
Everyone should realize it was an act of God’s grace that he decided to send His only Son into the world to pay for all of mans sins. God would not require anything of anyone for them to be saved from their sin that condemned them. All man has to do is accept Gods Son as their Savior by believing in Him.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no savior. Isaiah 43:11
The truth is, God has done everything that needed to be done for us to be saved. Gods only requirement is faith. Mans only excuse is he’s not willing to trust Jesus and does not want to be saved. Man just enjoys his sin that much!
What about my readers today. Do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior? It is not in just believing Jesus is Gods Son, but you must believe in Him as your Savior. The invitation has been given and it is up to you and me to either accept the offer, or reject it. The Bible makes it abundantly clear that today is the day to be saved.
(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.) 2 Corinthians 6:2
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6
HE Came To Seek and To Save
Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 1:28
Jesus himself often invited people to be saved from their sins. He asks them to believe in Him. Just a causal reading through the four gospels and this can be seen. The Bible says that Jesus came to seek and to save the lost.
For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. Luke 19:10
Man being lost in his sin has separated him from a Holy God.
For as by one man=s (Adam) disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience (Jesus) of one shall many be made righteous. Romans 5:19
This is one powerful scripture. It is through Jesus Christ alone, his grace, his mercy, his love for us and all of the many wonderful things Jesus is that makes the way for a sinner to be saved. It has nothing to do with what we do!
Contrary to what many seem to think, you cannot simply decide that one day you are going to get saved. It just doesn’t work that way.
I’ve heard people myself say “I am going to get saved when I feel like it,” or “One day I am going to get saved,” but comments like this can be very dangerous to ones eternal security. First of all no one knows when they will take their last breath, and secondly, we don’t know how much time the Lord will give us before He may withdraw his hand.
If a day ever comes in your life and you hear the offer to be saved, then that is the time to be saved! Not “I will one day,” or “When I feel like it!”
Behold, the LORD=S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. Isaiah 59:1-2
There will be many who never respond to the invitation to be saved, and they will end up in Hell. Let me assure you they would give anything to have another opportunity to be saved. But because they spurned the opportunity they had to get saved while they were still alive their chance for salvation is now OVER!
Jesus asked the question in Matthew 16:26;
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Matthew 16:26
No one knows when they may hear their last invitation to be saved. The wise person will prepare to meet God now!
I once taught a young peoples Sunday school class on how to be saved. However, they were not ready to be saved, so needless to say they did not heed the call. Within a week they were in a car accident where one was killed and the other one had injuries that would affect him the rest of his life. My friend, every one of us knows this kind of thing happens all the time!
Judas Iscariot had three and one half years to receive the Lords salvation. He even talked and walked with the Lord. He was given the ability to perform miracles and to heal the sick and afflicted, yet he still refused to accept Jesus Christ as his Messiah and Savior.
Because God does not want anyone to be lost, over and over again he gives people an opportunity to be saved. Here is what the Apostle Peter said about that;
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us‑ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
For those who don’t know the joy of salvation, Jesus freely offers you his invitation to do so, but the offer must be accepted!
As believers we are to share the good news of salvation in every way we can. This is why radio, television, internet, newsletters, CDS and tracts are effective tools in getting the gospel out.
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. Proverbs 11:30
The church has been given the great commission to go into all the world and share the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ with all people. The body of Christ should be actively working and praying that the lost will believe upon Jesus as their Savior.
This is why the Lord leaves us here after He saves us, to serve Him as vessels he can use to get the gospel out. Not only does He bless us as we serve Him, but he has promised soul winners special recognition for helping to win the lost to Jesus Christ.
And the Lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel [them] to come in, that my house may be filled. Luke 14:23
And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21
So in closing let me share with you some final thoughts;
- The day will come for your last chance to accept the invitation to be saved.
- No one is going to heaven who “was” going to be saved. Only those who “are” saved are the
- The reason God often allows people to continue in their sin is because he knows how awful eternity will be in the lake of fire. He does not want anyone to miss heaven.
We hope that after you have read our study today you realize the urgency of salvation, not only for yourself but for others. On any given day the last invitation to be saved may be given. Do not spurn it. Take this message today seriously. God loves you so much and he wants you to live with Him in heaven forever. May God Bless.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
Father, thank you for our Savior who died on a cross to pay our sin debt, a debt we could not pay. We pray for any who may not know thee in the forgiveness of sins. You are worthy of our praise and worship and we bow before you in Jesus’ name. Amen
